The Poakalani & Co. Website was started in 1996 to share with the general public our Hawaiian quilting experience.  We felt that we needed to share not only the finished quilts but also  the cultural and especially the teaching aspects of  Hawaiian quilting. It was our greatest desire to inspire and encourage others to pick up their own needle and thread and begin their own tradition and cultural legacy. By doing this it is helping to fulfill our mission to preserve the "Art of Hawaiian Quilting".  We would like to thank all the quilters for allowing us to share their quilts on this website so we can continue to inspire others to help preserve not only their own personal story and tradition but one of Hawaii's most treasured Art.  Thank You
Thank you to the following organizations for their continued support toward preserving the Art of Hawaiian Quilting

Poakalani Serrao
January 18, 1935 - February 2, 2012
PPoakalani Serrao also known as Hawaii's one handed quilter passed away yesterday at the age of 77.  She was instrumental in the revivial of Hawaiian quilting not only in Hawaii but nationally and internationally.  She showcased quilts not just as quilts on a bed but art on the wall.  She with her husband in 1972 created the first smaller cushion patterns and wallhangings instead of the larger full size quilts designs to help  ease and teach Hawaiian quilting to a larger audience.  Because she was born with only one hand she was able to refine her teaching classes to many shortcuts and handy tips.  Poakalani has received numberous awards and also appeared on many shows like the Hawaiian Moving Company, QVC shopping channel, Home and Gardens Network, Perry & Price show and numerous magazines.  Poakalani and her husband John have written numerous quilting articles as well as published six Hawaiian quilting books She is survived by her Quilt Designer husband John Serrao, Two sons Joseph and John,  Quilt instructor daughters Cissy & Rae  Son-In-Law Aaron, granddaughters Missy & Thea. Her legacy will live on in her students and their quilts.  Services will be held on Saturday February 25 at the Oahu Cemetery Chapel.  Visitation 9:00am, Services 11:30, Burial 1:00pm,
